  1. I must walk under that dome several times a month. For me it will always be The Emporium dome, named for the old department store where it stood.

    • It’s the dome at the Westfield Mall in San Francisco. Originally it was the “Emporium Dome” (I believe the Emporium was a store in SF) and was saved to be used in the new mall.

The 102-foot-wide historic “Emporium” dome (pictured above) turned 100 years old on October 1, 2008. Grab a cup of coffee and sit under the huge skylight to enjoy spectacular views of the dome — it’s a great venue for relaxing, reading, working on your computer… and people-watching.

  3. The front of Westfield is actually The Emporium facade, columns and all. At the entrance is the original Emporium sign, in brass or bronze. The dome stood pretty much at the center of the store. It was pushed further back after the recent, massive remodel. It’s nice to have these reminders of the city’s past. Great picture.
