The Metro

I love these old theater marquees – again, we built beautiful things when we cared about how things were built. Look at the detail.   This is the Metro Theatre in San Francisco.

  1. I lived there when the New Mission theatre still showed movies: finally closed in 93 or so. Broke my heart. One of the last old Art Deco theatres. There was also the Roxie on 16th and Valencia, which I think shut down. On 24th, there’s the St. Francis Creamery. Hasn’t been remodeled since the 40’s, at least it hadn’t been when I lived there. I think they still pull an old fashioned soda.

I’m a young man with an old man’s memories.
