I love these building that are shaped like the product they sell.  They sure add character to the roadside.

1950s Era Motel

The Cara-Mar Motor Lodge is on FL19 in Eustis, FL.  The vintage signage caught my eye as I traveled north on FL19 toward the fairgrounds.

First Year for Mercury – 1939

leave a comment »

I took Sadie (our collie) out for a ride yesterday toting my camera bag along.  Drove through Eustis, FL on FL 19.  That particular stretch of road is still full of 1950s era signage, mostly motel and restaurants. We drove 5 or 6 mile north toward the fairgrounds then turned back.  FL19 (also known as Bay Ave) splits – two lanes of traffice going north separated by homes and businesses and two lanes going south.  On the southbound side is Ferran Park which is on the banks of Lake Eustis.  A group of classic cars enthusiasts were gathering for a weekly cruise-in and I got some nice shots of some truly great cars and trucks.  This 1939 Mercury Four Door was a beauty.  The owner was quick to tell me that this was the first year for the Mercury line of FOMOCO cars.  Hope you like them.

San Francisco is filled with history and gems like this marquis from the Alhambra theater.

Metro Theatre

I really liked this very retro theatre marquis in San Francisco.  Lately I’ve had an eye for older things – their present beauty from a time past.
