My Nantucket Red

Came up with this cocktail hour offering – attempting to match the color newly acquired Nantucket Reds® from Murray’s.  Later this weekend I’ll put the kit on a model it all for ya!

The Nantucket Red

Here are the mixology instructions:

In a shaker half filled with ice

2 oz of your favorite vodka

2 oz of cranberry-pomegranate juice

1 oz of orange juice (not from concentrate)

Squeeze of a wedge of lime

Shake and pour into a nice crystal beverage glass or martini glass

Note:  This beverage is nice but a tad tart – some folks probably like it that way.  You might consider adding ½ oz. of simple syrup to take the bite off.

Simple Syrup

2 cups of water

2 cups of sugar

Heat to a boil and all sugar granules are dissolved and then let it cool.  Keeps in the refrigerator forever.

J. Press and Barrie Ltd. Booters

Spring or Fall, my Dad would usually spring (for me) for a pair of shoes at Barrie Ltd. Booters on York Street in New Haven.  Right next to J. Press, this was a Saturday shopping experience for the young man – coached by his Dad.  I remember a pair of Barrie’s slip on “loafers” were somewhere around $22.  In the late 50’s and 60’s this was a considerable expenditure for some new kicks.

I remember vividly my Dad an my uncles buying shoes from Barrie’s.  They knew quality and it looked good on them.

When it came to clothes, my Dad pointed me in the right direction.  First J. Press; but I was poorer than dirt – but it stuck with me.  He gave me some hand-me-downs that to this very day I wish I still had.  The ties were a whole different deal — the stripes the regimentals, the pinpoints – all beautiful, clean and classy!

Spring

TR6 and Sharpness

You can take the word “sharp” to mean a lot of things.  In this case I’m applying to the crispness of a very cool automobile…  My love of TR6s is enhanced by this photo.  For starters I love the color!  I love the clean surface of green with the saddle interior and the snap of those red-line tires.  Like a drive on a crisp autumn morning this TR6 has it all!

I did some playing with the sharpening tool in Adobe Elements – to the point where I think you could put your fingers into the tread of the tires.

TooJay’s in Chevy Town

TooJay’s Gourmet Deli is a wonderful Jewish Deli-Restaurant in Central Florida.  Love the potato pancakes, love the corned beef sandwiches.  Breakfast and brunch are crowded for a good reason – it’s wonderful!

These Chevys were clean and lean.  Great looking cars and fun to watch and remember past times and think about who had this car when you were a kid, or a young adult – or “My Dad had one of these!”

I rendered these in “grunge” – i thought it was the best fit.

Week’s Work

Over the past couple of weeks a took a couple hundred photos, but didn’t have much time to work with them,  post-processing and so on.  Next week proves to just as busy, I can’t seem to breath Monday thru Friday.  Living for the weekends here!  I’m in one of those situations where I can’t relax.  I have a pile of books I want to read, but I can’t relax enough to read even five pages.  I have three high-profile projects, and I have to keep my wits about me.  I wish I could retire, but that’s just not in the cards right now.

Over at the Chart House in Daytona beach are are million-dollar yachts docked along the inter coastal waterway, their Captains trading stocks with on-board internet connectivity.  Just down the street is a look back seventy years – this old filling station now serving cold drinks on a wooden patio.
